I've been thinking about taking my 5-year-old out for their first fishing trip. Honestly, I don't have much experience myself, but I want to make some great memories together. I spotted some kid-sized fishing rods at a local store and was curious if those are practical or if we should look for something else. Just trying to get a feel for what a simple setup might be for a beginner like us. Any tips or recommendations would be super helpful!

The kid style rod and reel will be fine to begin with. Try to find a good bream body of water, the bream are exciting and not too large for kids to handle. Bobber setup with redworms/night crawlers. or crickets will be your best bet for catching some bream. Try to find an area with no low hanging branches or tall weeds to prevent the child getting snagged and losing interest in the fishing. Search youtube for videos on beginner or kids bream/bluegill fishing and for bobber setup for your tackle. Also, if the bobber setup does not produce bream, look into drop shot rig for bluebgills/bream...just search youtube to see examples and how to tie on the drop shot rig.
Have fun and enjoy the time with your little one, they will be grown in a very short while.
My boys are 40 and 32 now...seems like only yesterday that they were 5 years old.
