Been thinking about building my first AR-15 and finally started checking out parts. It's kind of overwhelming, honestly. There are so many options and I feel like I'm still figuring out what's worth it and what's just flashy marketing. I'm leaning toward a basic rifle build, probably sticking with 5.56 for now, but I'm open to ideas if anyone thinks there's a better caliber for a newbie.

So, what's the deal with parts brands? Are there some you would suggest I avoid? I've heard mixed things about a few, but I'm not sure which are solid. Also, what are some of those hidden costs that tend to sneak up on you? You know, like tools or special bits you don't think about until it's too late.

Is it worth it to build my own or should I just bite the bullet and buy something that's already put together? I know there are pros and cons to both, but I'm nervous about making mistakes. Any hard lessons learned from when you started? Would really appreciate any advice or tips!
