For your EDC, you might find a folder to be more user-friendly, but a compact fixed blade definitely brings some serious strength to the table. Which option do you think works best for you?

As with most things in life needs and taste change over the years. In my younger years it was always a stockman folder. Usually it was a Tree Brand or Case but once an Uncle Henry and a Buck. I had a Queen Steel fixed blade as a hunting knife. While in the Corps I carried a Puma or Buck lock blade, a Gerber MKII and a K-Bar along with the issued bayonet. When I started working I went back to carrying a stockman and a lock blade in a belt pouch. I eventually moved to a SpiderCo because I could open it one handed and that was needed at times. A work buddy tried opening a folder using his teeth once and the blade slipped and closed on his lip. He still has the scar.

When Kershaw came out with the flipper assisted opening blade I got one and used it and a short "electricians knife" until I retired. The electricians knife is a short fixed sheepsfoot blade. It replaced the lock blade and was a much better choice for EDC.

Today I carry a Boker Tree Brand stockman, a Victorinox mini Swiss army with a bottle opener, scissors etc and a fold-up credit card knife in my wallet. There is a local maker that has made several knives for me and I have toyed with the idea of a fixed blade EDC. I haven't seen a sheath design that accommodates concealed pocket carry and allows the knife to be drawn without removing the entire rig. That would be a good choice if someone comes up with a sheath like that.
