On a different forum there was a long debate about light weight and ultra lightweight rifles. Many were decked out with, what I considered, bigger than necessary scope. I suggested using ChatGPT or at least a search engine to list rifle Scopes by weight to help them cut ounces. The same guys that were debating the lightest scope rings or how to modify scope bases to reduce weight almost pilloried me for suggesting they could trim more fat with the correct optic choice vs. rings or bases.

Having prefaced with that, "Would you use AI to narrow your search for a new firearm?".

When all is said and done, AI isn’t going to take the place of real-world experience, but it can help clear the noise and offer a solid foundation. I’d prefer to be out shooting rather than getting into arguments about grams on the internet.

I agree; hands on experience is invaluable. When I buy a new toy I want to hold it in my hand first. If possible I want a test drive. But I will spend HOURS researching before I spend a single cent. AI can consolidate the research into a neater more concise format in seconds rather than hours.

When the shutdown over healthcare was happening one of the loudest cry's was, "People are starving because SNAP isn't being paid out!" Then the conversation morphed into the waste associated with the program etc. I used ChatGPT to build a meal plan with menus and a shopping list for a family of four utilizing our local Aldi Food Store based on a budget of $975 per month. $975 is the current SNAP benefit for a family of four. Within seconds I had a four week meal plan, recipes a shopping list that included snacks and tips on how to stretch the budget even farther. It even covered items like paper towels and dish soap and can be tweaked to add or discard items based on personal likes and dislikes.

Most of the meals we eat, cars we drive and gear we use at the range are from personal experience or advice and recommendations of friends. AI is just another friend to ask, another wrench in the toolbox.
