If you had to choose just one gun to rely on, which one would you go for? Let's know your pick and the reasons behind it being the best all-around choice!

I will tackle this in a general way without getting into specific firearms. I tend to be a handgun person but a one gun scenario I think a rifle is a better choice. From a reliability standpoint a bolt action makes a lot of sense. Simple, fewer parts to fail, multiple rounds in the magazine and available in many calibers. The bolt action is accurate at distance but can be handy enough for close encounters. They can be configured with synthetic stocks, stainless action and barrel, multiple sighting systems and in some cases barrels can be swapped giving you multiple caliber choices.

I really think some form of Col. Cooper's Scout Rifle is what I would go with. More specifically I would choose the Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle in 308.

There is a lot to be said for other systems. Something on the AR format has a lot of appeal. But, a combination gun with a rifle over a shotgun certainly gets the nod for versatility. Single shots like the Sharps or Winchester score very high on ruggedness and simplicity. Shotguns, especially manually operated actions, have potential in all but longer ranges. I am glad I am not confined to one gun.
