I shoot mostly rimfire, .22lr and .22mag. I hunt squirrels and am always on the hunt for a better, more accurate round. As I shoot suppressed I tend to favor rounds that run less than 1100fps. Right now the most economical and accurate round with acceptable terminal performance is the CCI Segmented Subsonic. This is a copper washed segmented 40 grain bullet running an advertised 1080FPS. In my Clark Custom 77/22 it is consistently squirrel accurate, I.e. 1/2" at 50 yards.

I tried the CCI Suppressor Max this week and was disappointed. This is a 45gr. copper washed segmented bullet running 970fps. After 50 rounds to season the bore I settled in for five ten shot groups. The best of these was 1" with most running 2"+ .

Because I had trouble finding this ammo I bought several boxes when I did. I will continue to try them in other rifles but for now they have been moved to the "Plinking Ammo" shelf.

Interesting stuff, man. You planning to stick with CCI for hunting loads, or are you thinking about trying out Eley, SK, or maybe some of the Aguila subsonics to compare accuracy?

I used SK for years because that is what Clark Custom used for the initial build and supplied target.

I have used Lapua and SK with the assurance that a miss was my fault. I just do not like Eley.

For a while I was shooting Norma Tac22 Subsonic hollow points with good results. Alas they have been dropped from the Norma lineup.

For now I will use the CCI Segmented Subsonic. Unless someone tells me if another round with similar terminal performance that groups as well and as consistently as these.

Have you tried Eley Subsonic Hollow or SK Subsonic? Theyre a bit pricey but I've had pretty good luck with them when it comes to accuracy. Worth checking out.

I actually still have a few SK subs on hand. The terminal performance of the CCI Subsonic versus the SK is much more devastating, while the difference in accuracy is negligible.

I shoot a lot of Eley back in the 90s and never could get over the smell or mess they left behind. They were, by far, the dirtiest ammo this side of black powder. I haven't tried any in the last 35 years. Have they improved?
