Shooting steel targets the safe way

Lately I've been spending more time ringing steel, and man, it's addictive. But safety's always on my mind, keeping the right distance, using proper ammo, and checking targets for pits or dings. Nothing ruins a day quicker than a ricochet. How do you folks keep it safe while shooting steel?

I'm the same way, steel's a blast, but ricochets worry me too. I always check angles and only use ammo that won't crater targets

Yeah man, same here. I stick to the right loads, keep the distance dialed in, and never shoot busted plates. Ain't worth catching a bounce back...safety keeps it fun

Always make sure to wear your eye and ear protection, even when you're just spotting. You never know what might happen. And if you're in close setups, wear some long sleeves and gloves can really save you from those flying fragments.

Try angling your targets a bit. A slight downward tilt can really help keep those fragments from flying everywhere and direct them into the ground. And if you can mount the targets to allow for a little swing or flex, that's even better. It helps absorb the impact and minimizes the splash.

It’s pretty helpful to paint your targets between sessions. Not only does it make them stand out better, but it also makes it a lot easier to notice any fresh damage that might need some TLC.
